Yoga Beginnings: Ashtanga Inspired Class (Chicago)

May 4, 2014 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

| $10.00

Class Description:
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is often hailed as the modern interpretation of classical Indian yoga. Popularized by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, it utilizes deeper techniques such as bhandas (body locks), drishti (point of vision) and mantras along with a rigorous set sequence of postures. An Ashtanga-inspired class weaves elements of this ancient practice along with modern and creative transitions from poses. Breath awareness is always at the forefront of this class as well as the emphasis on the importance of creating body heat and targeting the five major series: standing postures, back-bending, seated postures, cool down and inversions. Be prepared to challenge your mind and body!

Teacher Bio:
Stephanie is a dedicated student of yoga. Her journey started with her first Indo-Tibetan college course, which led her to take many classes and lectures under renowned Buddologist, Robert Thurman. With an eagerness to learn more about the subtle body, she fell in love with yoga through Sivananda. She later explored Ashtanga, and her career as a yoga teacher brought her to the lineage of Sri T. Krishnamacharya at the Chicago School of Yoga, under the tutelage of Lucia Cordeiro-Drever and David Duerkop.

Stephanie firmly believes yoga is a tool to quiet down the mind by using the body to find your own edge and make the impossible, possible. A strong and flexible body awakens the inner fire. She is forever a student, a devout Buddhist and loyal teacher. She invites everyone to come and reap the physical benefits of yoga but above all else discover the divine connection in all living beings.

Why paws?
PAWS Chicago is the city’s largest no kill humane organization, offering solutions and services to end the killing of homeless pets. Each teacher chooses an organization of their choice and for Stephanie animals are more than just pets. As an animal lover and activist she felt compelled to choose an organization that truly strives to give a voice to the voiceless and help our furry friends find a dignified and happy home.
